Someone asked me today

what friendship really means

What does friendship mean to us

I see it as a beautiful union

all is lovingly made

a patchwork quilt

this true work of art

always to keep working on,

adding to

year after year

building joyful piece

our union of combined history

embrace that you can wrap around you

And when wrapped

in its penetrating warmth

embraced fully

by its history and memories

Your very soul is warmed

The Reason

The Reason

In an almost unbearable burst of enlightened thought

A moment of crystal clarity, and unity of mind and soul

I find myself here, at this spot, at this time

And ask, what we all boon to ask

The question all must ask of themselves to become whole

There must be a reason, a plan, some greater command

Some guiding force weaving the threads of the tapestry of my life

The potter’s hand that has shaped me for a purpose that I am to serve

Some finite goal not shared, but there regardless

Awaiting the day when I’m truly prepared

And I am here

Marching back through my memories and lessons

I can now see the pattern emerging

The trials put before me to build my strength and character

Loves filling my very soul to build my compassion

Losses to embed my understanding and insight

The long, slow awakening of that who I am today

And now, in rapturous and joyful discovery

The answer is at long last found within

The simplicity and propriety of the solution

In its self, yet another of that guiding hands special wonders

All the pain and anguish of the long hard years recede in importance

As the reason becomes so clear

I am here to be your friend…

Yesterday and Tomorrow

Yesterday and Tomorrow

I walk across these lands of the old ones

Those who have long since gone down their own path

Their journeys have taken them away from here, and home again

But as I walk I can still hear their laughter, feel their pain

I can hear their songs, the music fills my very being

I can see them yet, dancing the sacred dances

I can feel their connection

Their oneness with the source

The memories and pride run deepest in my own heart

As strong in my soul as it was in these people

This was life

This will be again

The spirits of yesterday

Are the futures of tomorrow

The Greatest Joy

This has been a long hard road I’ve travelled

All of the pain and the loss, the betrayal forced to borne

The brief flickering lives I’ve seen taken, feed the flames of my agonized soul

This brutality the bane of my fellow man, striking out from ignorance and hatred

Treading over all in their path on quest for power, greed, and more things

Striking out at differences in colour, creed, preference, view, or faith

Intolerance abounds in a society supposedly renowned for its’ blend

My heart bleeds from the ravages of the darkness surrounds

The light in my soul wanes dim and dark in despair

Hope, the last visage of a gasping listless life,

Fades as a dying ember of last night’s fire

And yet still there is a glimmer

A perceived gleam of that near forgotten hope

Dare I reach for the light at least this one more time

Challenge myself once more to stand upright and free

Risk another fall into image and dream

But in a wonder I find it true

And in reaching this one last time

I find the greatest joy I’ve to ever know

In this place I ne’er even deemed to be looking

Here, complete and peaceful, flawless in its simplicity

The joy it brings immeasurable, ambrosia feeding my soul

These quiet conversations with you are all I ever really needed

And I would begin the long road once again, start this journey anew

Re-live all the pain and loss even so difficult, so weary

Battle darkness and evil, trod along the rocky path, dare pitfalls yet again

For just one more moment of sharing with you

I thank you for being my friend…

The Sharing

I shed a tear today

Watched it fall, tumbling through air

I saw you reach out and catch it

Interrupting the fall

You shared it, held it, felt it as I

I saw the pain on your face

The burn in your soul…

And suddenly

My pain was less…

I thank you my friend…

This Journey I Walk

I strive to learn, to listen, to feel, to see……

Hear the magic in the wind, feel the love of its embrace

The gentle murmur of the trees filling the forest

And hold in your heart the cool shade they provide

Behold the colours of rainbow in the beacon of flowers

Hear the chattering of the butterflies flitting about them in peace

Contrasted by the boisterous scolding squirrels in their ever running work
Hear the magical whispers of the earth mother drifting across this world
The heavenly sigh of the dusty dry ground as the first rain drops fall
Feel the joy in the clouds as they drift across creation
Laugh with the noisy cries of baby bird as its mother comes home

Take pleasure in the chance meeting of a new friend

Share the pain of the losing the wisest of old ones now gone
Let this world excite you, stir your soul with newfound awareness
The startling cascading rumble of windblown stones rattling on the roof
Heart stopping strike of lighting and thunder in an otherwise clear sky
The unintentional slip down a muddy bank into the cold clear waters below
Shudder in the rapture at the howling of the wolves on the mountaintop
Cry out in the passion invoked by the sunset’s last gleams
With your abundance of patience, for all things living or not
This is the only true secret, and with this I find success cannot fail
Forever embracing the simple offers of life, embracing each instant of time

Holding sacred all now surrounding me, while letting not one moment be lost

For this journey is made only from my single steps combined

This Journey

This Journey

Night moon forever watching the earth bound creatures flow through the night,

Glittering Stars painting the world with ideas and truth,

The great Sky enfolding it all together,

All Watch the wolf traveling the land, carrying his hymn through the night,

Wolf, who walks in the night without fearing of his shadow,

Wolf, who will always see the path that is open even when it is dark,

Wolf, who knows his place in the universe, even when he travels the land,

Howl to the greatness of the night,

Plains that hold the lifeblood of the buffalo,

Mountains that provide homes to those in need of shelter,

Hills sharing the space in between the two,

Watch for the wolf as he approaches, conveying his song through the day

Wolf. who would listen,

Wolf, whose leadership is also his harmony,

Wolf, whose prowess encourages the young to grow,

Howl to the greatness of the day,

Winds that breath the life to the world,

Trees that share the world with the animals,

Flowers that whisper when the wolf stops to smell the earth,

Watch the wolf as he binds the earth with sky in a single breath,

Wolf, who holds friendship, loyalty, and love,

Wolf, who preservers against the thunder,

Wolf, who hunts when his brethren are hungry,

Howl to the greatness of the world,

Ocean of blue and keeper of rain,

Streams sharing the life flow of mother earth,

Rivers weaving the earth to the ocean,

Watch for the wolf as he sings his story for all to hear

Wolf who knows solitude is a friend to the soul,

Wolf who knows a glass pond is sometimes better walked around,

Wolf who knows… the beauty of your Spirit

Sing your life song…..
