The End of Forever

Never I say

The End is not Written.
The Day is not Done,
No End to the Journey
At most, a slower Run

The Adventures and Amusements
That Life surely Provides
Do not End at each Junction
No matter how Hard

The Losses we Live through
Are Toilsome to Brook
But They are the Nourishment
That fills up Life’s Book

And each End we Perceive
In our Loss and our Pain
Our Grief tends to Blind us
To the new Joys soon Obtained

So Retreat not to Darkness
Pull the Door open not Closed
For the Future is Before you
And the Journey not Won
Reach out your Hand

And place it in Mine
And together we’ll Find
What Alone would Lost

There are no Endings, Only Changes in State……

The Day

I sit here in this early morning and listen
Grass still dripping with heavy dew
Sounds of the world astir, awake and moving
Lying back, I look up at the sky above
So big, so beautiful, a plethora of blues
Leaves rustle and cascade to the ground
Squirrels dance seeming random
Laughing in the gentle cool of morning wind
The rush of gathering, from the plenty of today
Ever hording for the winters yet to come

My windows should all be opened wide
To let of this glorious sunshine in
But later perhaps, there be time then
For now I but want to rest and bask
To hold to this moment, my own inner bliss

Is there ever a true escape
From this muddled and hectic life
Kaleidoscope of emotion, situations dire and pressed
The rights, the wrongs, the driving need
And so, many in betweens

I want to run away, to keep only this precious day
To find a secret special place
Where all are healthy, with happy lives
A child playing make believe with my friends

So much sadness about me
So many deep with need
To my left the old, my right the young
One can’t remember, the other can never forget.
Both calling out for help

I try to be here, to be there, to be everywhere
Yet never able to help as I should
And so afraid, of failing again
If only I could run and hide
Or someway conquer and win

But, instead here I lie, admiring the heavens
And daring wish, but one more time
And yet, I may, I just may
Open my windows to the sun one day
I may yet find that secret special place
And light filled, the world at peace, with happiness…..

The Blessing

I urge witness my brother
Consider the beauty unfold
Momentous imposing landscapes
Teeming life abound

Magic surrounds us
Ever shifting growth and decay
Profusion and diversity
More than stars mark the sky

Whirlwind of miracles
Abundance set for all
This world full of treasures
So effortlessly found

It takes but a moment
An effort so small
Reach out my brothers
Embrace these gifts all

I beg journey with me
As I wonder this world
You too feel the love
And bounty of this land…

The Serenity Within You

Seek to empty your mind of all thoughts
Allow your heart be at peace, rest your soul
Watch the boiling turmoil of the life around you
Contemplate their final return, their peace yet ahead

See the beginnings of all live in the universe
Observe the circle of the return to common origin
The returning to origin as the long sought serenity

In not realizing the origin, you stumble in confusion and sorrow
In the knowing you become tolerant, disinterested, amused

Kindly as a grandmother, dignified as a king.
Immersed in the wonder of the source, you cope
Dealing easily with whatever life brings you
And at the end, when death comes, you are ready

Walking the path of your own circle
Returning to the origin of your beginning
Rejoining to once more become a part of the whole

This, the journey of the great circle
Small steps leading to the serenity of the one

The serenity within you…

See Yourself

See the life all around you
See that part you hold tightly in yourself
That part is in all these others
The four legged, the fliers,
The crawlers, two legged, and all

Know that all life comes from the same source
All life holds value to their journey,
Whether short or long, hard or easy
Learn to know that all life trembles before violence
All fear death, all love life.
All have dreams and passions
All have loves and fears
All crave happiness and contentment

And so, when you see yourself in others,
Then whom can you hurt?
What harm can you do?
For in truly knowing of your part in others,
How can you harm them without harming yourself

Know that you who seek your own happiness from without
Seeking your answer by hurting others
Those others who seek their own happiness,
You will be doomed to never find happiness for yourself.
For your brother is alike to you,

He may look different, believe differently, talk differently,
Yet he simply wants to be happy.
Never harm him, for in harming him,
You harm yourself so much more

Seek for real happiness within yourself
Look deep within to know your own connection to Spirit
You own strengths and weaknesses
Your own wants and needs

In this way you too will find happiness.
In this life……

And after you leave this life, to return home…

Mystery Sweat

I am the walking, talking, living reminder of all that is or has been
From the earliest beginnings of time, throughout all the dreams of tomorrow
I have ever been, am, and will always be…

From deep within the dark hot lodge the voices begin
Sounds of the old ones, sounds raspy and rough from age and wisdom, begin the tale
Through the haze of smoke dimmed eyes I see their shadows
In the heat I can yet feel their presence, heed to the bond of the ages
And my brothers sing the old songs, those sung by the ancestors long so ago
Songs sung to remind us of who we are, why we are here
Who we should be
And spirit is here too, sitting upon the prayer ties
Sitting and waiting, eager to help any that open their hearts and minds

The tension builds in the voices, like electricity in a closing storm
I no longer hear the words but feel their meaning, feel what they feel
And I understand now why what is within you is so much more important any words you say

And the prayers that are answered are those of love
Answered from a realm few of the people really understand
A realm pulled deep from within each of us, there for our needs
For the reason lies not in any mans reason
But within the reason of all things
The great mystery at the core of existence
Of movement and motion, change and changes

As the sweat of your body moves from within you
As does the understanding move from your core, your very soul
The sweat trickles down your body to the earth below, Earth Mother drinks, and you become again

The old ones steadily add wood to the fire
Increasing the great heat so you might become more of your Mother
And in your prayers it is your heart that is felt
Connection renewed, building afresh, shinning in its glory and wonder
Connected to the brothers in the lodge, the rocks and the air
Connected to the prayer ties and the spirits that sit upon them

I feel the pain of those around me, their pain becomes mine
I pray for their pain and with gentle kindness take their pain unto myself
Take their pain so that they may know a moment of rest, of freedom
The love of the mystery swells out from me, touches all around me
The brief moment I hold the pain they feel the love of the great mystery touch them
A caressing love filling them with peace, joy, and contentment
Tears flow from my eyes as I know their peace

For the willingness to take the pain of others, knowledge comes to me
The great mystery will take all the burdens I bear, all the pain
Washing it away with the sweat, running down my body to enter into the Mother
Making me once more whole and healthy, once more a part of the all

The door to the world is open, breath and prayers of the old ones released
Released once more back into the universe where created, to those spirits unseen
Breath on the winds tasted by us walking this journey
I crawl out the door headfirst just as I was born
Take my first breath, the breath of rebirth, so clean and cool
Weak as that first day of birth, yet more alive than ever before
Given another chance, another day to wonder in the glory

And I know we must remember, must hold for all yet to come
Brothers came before me, gave me the chance to be here now
I must hold to all the sacred things, all the importance of life and the Mystery
For there are many yet to come
And they must learn, must carry forward that which so many have lost

The journey continues…

The is Life

Colors, flashing, bright, rainbows spinning
The vortex of reality forced into my awareness
Combined to blind my eyes in cascading its madness

Sound, a roaring din of noise,
Voices hidden in the immensities of the silence
The silence falling with deafening chill on the ears of my soul

Flavors, biter, tart, sweet, sour
The biting burn of the acid eating its way inside
Lost ability to taste, numbing death in apathy and demise

Mind filled to bursting, a madness of running thoughts
The swirling emotions weaken my resolve, indecisive
Desire, want, need, lack, all withering my tired old heart

I stand outside, an intricate component, yet removed, apart
Observing the world around me, this bit of imagined existence
Forever trusting my inner vision, answers and truth found inside
I allow all things to come and go, my heart wide open as the sky

This is Life…

Together Yet Apart

It seems to get harder and harder
Since that day you went away
And still the people keep telling me
Everything will be okay

And I know deep inside
That it’s better where you are now
But we’re not together, you’re not here
It seems so damn unfair

Seems like only yesterday
Living together, two as one
Then suddenly my eyes were opened
When I realized gone means forever

It hurts, it aches
This slice from my heart
For all the rest of my life
We’ll ever be apart

Now that you’re gone
I have no one to run to
Am I doing this correctly
Please send me a clue

I’ve lost my understanding
The mystery and meaning of life
I can’t get this right
Fighting ever in strife

You may really be gone
But remain forever in my heart
You and me my love
Together, though apart

And I await the future
Holding hope that I will see
When time does come for my own death
You’ll open the gates for me…..

Transitory End

We’ve traveled this great country, side-by-side we’ve journeyed
Your beautiful blue eyes chasing the shadows dancing on northern skies.
In times of plenty we were content and serene,
Peacefully sleeping, Dangers few and far between.

We’ve also known much hunger, ribs protruding from our sides,
Mournfully we cried when our starving children died.
But remember our first winter, romping thru the glistening snow,
Tasting each crystal snowflake as they fell gently to and fro.

Ah my dear, sweet blue eyes, I’ve known no greater love,
Without you, I am nothing, our wild souls are as one.
Now you lay here before me dying, time wroth agony upon your frame,
Life’s blood slowly seeping as I whisper your sweet name.

Helpless, I watch you struggle, chest heaving with labored breath,
Body getting weaker, the winds whispering the song of death.
The blood has now stopped flowing, I know the time is near,
And you will forever leave me, my love, my life, my dear.

And now my world is silent, your every struggle ceased,
I lay my head upon you, and know you are at peace.
I know your soul has lifted, up to skies where eagles soar,
And there you’ll greet your sisters, and dance with them once more.

And someday in the future, I shall find you once again
And explore that greatest mystery, so far above this shore
And when I do, oncemore our wild souls will unite
In this the greatest love, the world will know….

Mystery, I Beg

Great mystery, I beg, use me as your instrument for peace

Where there is hate, let me bring love
For hate cannot stand before love and enlightenment

Where there is injury, let me bring healing
For with care and nurture, injury can be overcome

Where there is doubt, allow me to bring truth
For with truth and knowledge faith returns
And where there was despair, faith will bring hope

Where there is darkness, let me bring light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

Grant that I do not seek to be consoled, as to console;
Not desiring to be understood, as to understand;

I would rather love, as to be loved.
For I know it is in giving that we receive;
In pardoning that we are pardoned;
And in dying, that we are reborn to eternal peace.

Allow the beauty of the night sky and still waters;
Restore once more my faith in mankind.

Show me again how to love my brother,
Allow that my heart be open, so I may understand.

We may seem different from each other;
Yet, we’re not so different after all.

We’re all here for one reason, the same reason
Duty bound to spread peace and love
Among all life, all races, across this world

Reach out and touch your brother.
Take his hand and start the circle anew.
One hand within another, Spirit smiling from above…..
